Government AffairsBCA's monitoring of legislation and regulations affecting construction is very important to its members. Effectiveness at the state level is limited, as BCA has no presence in Indianapolis and employs no professional lobbyists. However, BCA's effectiveness at the local level and its advocacy for Allen County-based commercial contractors is unmatched. Serving as lobbyists, BCA gets in front of local elected officials, boards, and commissions to support or oppose proposed issues; these activities make BCA a well-known advocate for its members before local government entities. The Association maintains relationships with City of Fort Wayne and Allen County government representatives, as well as Northeast Indiana Legislators, to keep its finger on the pulse of local government activities. Many local and state officials are regularly invited to various BCA events, allowing members to have one-on-one interactions. BCA also sponsors a Meet the Candidates Reception to help members become aware of candidates aspiring to elected positions in annual elections. |
